The Communications & IT
ministry wants to muzzle social media sites now .Social media
platforms are being asked to censor whatever politicians deem objectionable and
too offensive for the Internet.Right....
As if whatever the Indian media shows us is not
edited enough !
Although India is world’s
largest democracy , they are asking Facebook,Twitter etc to help them filter
the Internet because the country has several religions and faiths.
Btw isn't Internet the most democratic medium
out there???
They say that what might seem humorous to someone can
be really offensive to another and they want to avoid further incidents of
communities taking to the streets and vandalizing public property. Huh ?
They also say that satirical representations of public
figures are acceptable, but they should not disturb the communal harmony. They showed company executives derogatory images oand altered pictures of
Politicians that appeared on their platforms. They argue that these images would offend
“any reasonable person.” Right......
Public Service Announcement : "You
have just been Chinized!"

Just when you think things cannot get any worse than this, such statements prove you wrong.
Who is to decide what is objectionable and what is not- is a question waiting to be answered.
